UFC win rate by age and time since the last fight

Fighters under 28 back within six months won 57% of their bouts; fighters 36 and over back within six months won 42%. In every age band, fighters returning after more than a year won less often than fighters back within six months.

How often a fighter wins, by age band and by how long since their previous UFC bout.

Correlation is not causation. Long breaks are often caused by injury, age or a lost contract, and any of those could explain the result as well as time away itself.

Descriptive only. This page describes past UFC results; it is not a forecast.

Age is on fight night, in completed years. Bands are as given in the source data and do not overlap. Each figure counts one fighter’s side of a bout.

What counts. Each fighter’s side of a bout, by age on fight night in completed years (the age bands do not overlap) and time since that fighter’s previous UFC bout. A fighter’s first UFC bout is left out, because there is no previous bout to measure from. Each bout counts once for each fighter, so every bout appears twice, once per side. Opponents are not matched. Older fighters and fighters back from a layoff do not face opposition of equal quality, so these rates mix in who they fought. Period. Every bout up to 10 October 2026 is included, the most recent seasons too.
